Casanova Nurse is an American Meteorologist working as a Chief Meteorologist at WTXL ABC 27 in Tallahassee, Florida. He first joined the station in 2003 as a weekend morning meteorologist and moved to KIAH-TV where he worked as a weekday morning anchor. He then rejoined ABC 27 in October 2008 as a chief meteorologist.
Education | Career
Nurse attended and graduated from the University of South Florida with a Degree in Geography. He then moved to Mississippi State University where he graduated with a degree in meteorology. Additionally, he is designated as a Certified Broadcast Meteorologist by the American Meteorological Society and is the first and only in the Tallahassee market to achieve this higher standard of AMS approval.
He currently works as a Chief Meteorologist at WTXL ABC 227 in Tallahassee, Florida. He first worked at ABC 27 in 2003 as a weekend Meteorologist. Nurse then moved to KIAAH-TV where he worked as a Weekday Morning meteorologist before rejoining ABC 27 in October 2008.
Over the years of his professional career, he has covered all types of weather scenarios, including numerous hurricane threats. Nurse provided thorough local and national coverage of the active hurricane seasons of 2004 and 2005. Additionally, Nurse reported from the scenes of several of those storms, including hurricanes Jeanne, Dennis, and Katrina.
Further, He also guided Texas viewers during the landfall of Hurricane Ike in 2008. Recently he guided local viewers and users with multi-hour coverage of hurricanes Hermine and Michael when they struck the Big Bend and Panhandle regions.
Casanova and the weather team set the standard for local severe weather coverage during the March 3, 2012, severe weather outbreak with continuous live monitoring and tracking of tornadic thunderstorms. This standard is upheld through subsequent severe storm events, with coverage performed extensively on air and through several digital and mobile platforms.
Outside the newsroom, he stays active and is heavily involved in the community through education, weather preparedness, and children’s initiatives. When off his duties, Nurse is a current events and history buff who collects ’80s memorabilia and enjoys computer technology and participating in community projects.
