Hannah McDonald Biography
Hannah McDonald is an American Anchor and Reporter working as a General Assignment Reporter at NewsChannel 5 in Nashville, Tennessee. She joined the station in August 2018 as a Weekend Morning Reporter and was promoted to Morning MMJ in September 2019 and finally General Assignment Reporter in December 2020. Before joining her current station she worked as a Morning Reporter at WGLA in Lancaster, Pennsylvania.
Education | Career
McDonald attended and graduated from LaSalle Academy in 2010. She then joined S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications at Syracuse University graduating in 2014 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Broadcast and Digital Journalism. While in college she interned at NBC Olympics in London.
She currently serves as a General Assignment Reporter at WTVF NewsChannel 5 in Nashville, Tennessee. She joined the station in August 2018 as a Weekend Morning Reporter and was promoted to Morning MMJ in September 2019. Later, she was promoted to her current role as a General Assignment Reporter.
Since joining NewsChannel 5 in 2018, Hannah has been nominated multiple times for a Nashville Regional Emmy Award for writing. Further, she has been recognized by the community for her commitment to covering the aftermath of the mass shooting at The Covenant School. The heartfelt coverage garnered her two Emmy nominations in 2023. Hannah was also honored to receive second place in the Associated Press contest for best television reporter in Tennessee in 2020.
During her tenure at WGAL, Hannah produced the station’s first mini-series, which spotlighted student life at the Milton Hershey School in Hershey. The miniseries was awarded Best Education Series by the Pennsylvania Associated Press and was nominated for an Emmy. In June of 2018, Hannah also won an AP award for feature reporting.
