Phil Blauer Biography
Phil Blauer is an American award-winning broadcast journalist serving at KUSI FOX 5 as a breaking news anchor. He joined the Station in May 2014 after working for several stations.
Phil Blauer’s Career | Education
Phil was brought up in Santa Ana where he started exploring his journalism skills. During that time, he was still working on student newspapers through high school. Blauer then enrolled at California State University, Fullerton in 1976 and graduated with a Bachelor’s degree, in Communications-Print Journalism in 1980. Then he joined the University of Southern California the following year and graduated with a Masters in Broadcast Journalism in 1983.
He has been in the industry for 35 years. Blauer has worked at KFMB, in Los Angeles, in Palm Springs at KESQ, at KCBS, KCAL, and KCOP. Additionally, he has worked for Investigation Discovery, CNN, Crime Watch Daily, and 48 Hours. Currently, he anchors breaking news for Fox 5 San Diego every Weekday at 4, 5, 6, 7,10 and 11 p.m.
Blauer has reported major national and international stories in the line of his career, he has also questioned six U.S. presidents. He has earned multiple Emmys, San Diego Press Club honors, and the Edward R. Murrow Award for Investigative Reporting.
While working on student newspapers, he began honing his journalism skills. He listens to all kinds of music when free. Blauer also loves exploring fine restaurants around San Diego County and mostly Mexican and Italian eateries.
