Rodney Dunigan is an American reporter serving at WSYX as an assistant news director. He joined the Station in October 2017 after working as a reporter for WFTS.
Rodney Dunigan’s Career | Education
Dunigan attended Tougaloo College in 1997 and graduated in 2002 with a Bachelor Of Arts Degree in English. During college, he worked for WLBT as a producer and crime-stopper reporter from January 2000 to May 2002. Next, he joined WJTV News Channel 12 in Jackson, Mississippi where he worked as a reporter and fill-in anchor from May 2002 to May 2004.
After working in Jackson, Rodney joined WDTN in Dayton, Ohio in August 2004 where he worked as a reporter and fill-in anchor before leaving the station in August 2006. He moved to Nashville where he served NewsChannel 5 Network as an education reporter and fill-in anchor from August 2006 to August 2011.
In August 2011, Rodney moved to Memphis where he served Local24 WATN as an anchor, reporter, and multimedia web producer for 4 years and 1 month. He then joined WFTS-TV ABC Action News in Tampa/St. Petersburg in September 2015 and left in September 2017. While there, he worked as a reporter, fill-in anchor, and Ethics committee member. During this period, he also worked for Scripps as a leadership champion.
After working in Tampa, Rodney moved to Columbus, Ohio in October 2017 where he joined WSYX/WTTE as an anchor, investigative reporter, and producer. Since joining WSYX, he has also worked as a studio host and a weekend managing editor. He currently serves WSYX as an assistant news director, an employee engagement committee member, and a service coordinator.
As WSYX’s assistant news director, he helps the staff produce impactful stories, especially on liability reporting. In his role as a service coordinator, he assists in supporting WSYX’s volunteer activities all around Central Ohio.
During his career, Dunigan has won multiple awards for his journalism including several Associated Press awards and Emmy nominations. Additionally, he has worked with teams that have received Emmys for general news excellence. He has also been featured in publications like Nashville’s SixFifteen Magazine and the Communicator.
Dunigan is passionate about serving the youth in the community where he works with numerous community service programs with school districts. he also works as a member of the Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity and an NABJ Leadership Academy Mentee. Further, he worked as a volunteer with Big Brothers Big Sisters. Due to his community work, he was listed among the “Outstanding Business Leaders” of Iota Phi Lambda Business & Professional Sorority.
