After graduating high school, Dahlheimer joined the University of Florida College of Journalism and Communications in May 2015, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Telecommunication. Subsequently, he pursued an additional Bachelor of Science in Telecommunication with a concentration in Political Science. Later, he furthered his education at the University of Missouri-Columbia, obtaining his Master of Arts in Journalism in December 2022.
Zak embarked on his career as a news and sports anchor at WVFS Tallahassee, 89.7 FM, where he produced and anchored live newscasts and sportscasts. Subsequently, he transitioned to WFSU TV/FM Public Broadcasting as a University Update Weekday Anchor. During his internships at WPTV NewsChannel 5 and WCJB TV20, he covered various stories and assisted the Assignment Desk Editor. Later, at WTVT-TV in Tampa, he proceeded to cover a wide range of stories and assumed the responsibility of crafting his versions of them.
Dahlheimer worked as an anchor and multimedia journalist at WUFT News from 2013 to 2015, then moved to ESPN 850, WRUF, and WJHG-TV. He then worked as a weekend anchor and investigative reporter at KESQ, CBS Local 2, and KUNA from 2016 to 2018. Zak contributed to weekend newscasts, filled in as an anchor, and promoted newscasts and stories through social media. He also worked as a reporter at WNCN from 2018 to 2020.
Upon transitioning to WTKR News 3, Zak served as an anchor and investigative reporter from March 2020 to October 2023, affiliated with CBS and CW. During this period, he actively contributed to newscasts, collaborated with Scripps National News, and promoted stories through social media. Moreover, he established ties with the American Cancer Society. He later joined WCTV as an evening news anchor in 2023.
