J-P Dice is a renowned American Meteorologist working as the chief meteorologist and a digital weather contributor for the First Alert weather team at WBRC-TV in Birmingham, Alabama. Education | Career
Dice attended the University of Florida (1993 to 1995), where he pursued a Bachelor of Science in Broadcast News. After graduating in 1995, he enrolled at Mississippi State University (2000 to 2002) and completed a Master of Science in Meteorology. He has also completed additional graduate-level meteorology coursework at the University of Alabama in Huntsville.
At WBRC FOX6 in Birmingham, Alabama, Dice serves as the chief meteorologist and a digital weather contributor for the First Alert weather team, delivering On Your Side forecasting the weather at 4 pm, 6 pm, 9 pm, and 10 pm. Prior to joining WBRC in August 2008, Dice served as a meteorologist at WHNT-TV Huntsville (March 1997 to August 2008) and at WJCB-TV in Gainesville, Florida (April 1995 to March 1997), where he tracked everything from tornadoes to hurricanes.
In 2004, Dice spearheaded the development of the first dual-polarization Doppler radar in broadcast meteorology, now standard for the National Weather Service. Additionally, he was the first meteorologist in Alabama to earn the AMS Certified Broadcast Meteorologist (CBM) seal. He also holds the National Weather Association Seal of Approval and was named Best Weathercaster in Alabama by the Associated Press in 2004, 2006, and 2009.
Beyond the newsroom, Dice partners with SkyBound Partners in an aviation brokerage and management firm, serves as a freelance broadcast meteorologist, works as a physical science instructor at Jefferson State Community College, and is the National Weather Association Broadcast Chair. He is also a full-time corporate pilot, holds an Airline Transport Pilot rating, and is a flight instructor. Off-screen, Dice and his wife enjoy traveling in their Mooney M20J.
