Darren Maier is a renowned American award-winning Meteorologist working as the Chief Meteorologist at WEAU TV 13 in Eau Claire, Wisconsin. He joined the station in March 2011 after previously working as the chief meteorologist at the NBC affiliate in Lima, Ohio (WLIO-TV) from March 2003 to February 2011.

Maier attended Central Connecticut State University, where he graduated in 2005 with a Bachelor of Science in Atmospheric Sciences and Meteorology. He was also honored with the prestigious CBM certification (#363) in 2009 from the American Meteorological Society, which recognizes professional broadcast meteorologists for their technical competence and ability to provide informational and explanatory value in their weather forecasts.

Since joining WEAU, Maier has had memorable moments covering the record-breaking winter of 2018-2019, which brought the all-time snowiest month (February) and season on record, the EF-3 Wheaton tornado in September of 2019, and the state’s longest track tornado on record, which was classified as an EF-3 when it tore through Barron County in May of 2017.
Prior to joining WEAU, Maier served as the chief meteorologist at the NBC affiliate in Lima, Ohio, where he anchored the weekday 5, 6, 9, and 10 pm newscasts at WLIO-TV. During his 20+ years of broadcast experience, Maier has been honored to win the Wisconsin Broadcasters Association award for best weathercast in small market television four times since 2018, and most recently in 2024.
