Dave Baker Biography
Dave Baker is an American Sports Journalist working as a Sports Anchor and Reporter at WKYT-TV in Lexington, Kentucky. He also serves the station as the Senior Marketing Consultant. Dave has been part of the station since 1982 and has enjoyed his stay there. He is honored to be part of the WKYT Sports Team and is happy to serve the Lexington folk.
Education | Career
Baker attended and graduated from Franklin High School with a High School Diploma. He then joined Georgetown College in 1978 graduating in 1982 with a Bachelor of Science in Political Science. Dave currently serves as a Sports Anchor, Reporter, and Account Executive at WKYT. He joined the station in 1982 after graduating and has been working there ever since.
Dave appears on air throughout WKYT’s line-up of news, sports, and special events programming. He also hosts a variety of University of Kentucky and SEC televised events including UK/JMI telecasts & broadcasts of University of Kentucky sports and he’s the long-time host of the UK Sports Network’s Countdown to Tip-Off Show on the school’s statewide radio network.
At WKYT, Dave anchors sportscasts at noon and 6:30 pm and of course whenever there’s news involving the Cats. Further, he is the host of the Sports Buzz podcast where he talks about more than sports, and he and Brian Milam host The Sports Buzz Podcast on the WKYT Facebook page.
Over the years at WKYT, Dave has been involved with the broadcast of events for the Southeastern Conference for over two decades doing men’s and women’s basketball, baseball, softball, and volleyball. He currently calls the action for UK men’s and women’s soccer as well as women’s softball.
Besides his professional career, Dave is highly involved in the community and believes in giving back to it. He has a long history of community commitment and involvement. As a result, The Kentucky State House and Senate have honored Dave for his work with the Malt Beverage Education Corporation.
Dave also served on Kentucky Lieutenant Governor Steve Pence’s task force that dealt with the issue of toughening laws and enforcement relating to sex offenders. The result of that work by the Kentucky Coalition Against Sexual Assaults resulted in the passage of Kentucky House Bill 3. Dave is also a member of the Foundation Board for Baptist Health Lexington and his other civic “love” is the Children’s Charity Golf Classic.
