Jim Caldwell Biography
Jim Caldwell is an American Meteorologist working as a Weekday Morning and Noon Meteorologist at WKYT in Lexington, Kentucky. He has been part of the station since June 2013 and is honored to serve the Lexington folk.
Education | Career
Caldwell attended and graduated from Mississippi State University with a Degree in Broadcast Meteorology. He is also a certified meteorologist and holds the American Meteorological Society and National Weather Association seals of approval. At a young age, Jim was not necessarily fascinated by the weather he wanted to be a Psychiatrist when he was in elementary school.
Caldwell currently serves as a Weekday Morning and Noon Meteorologist. He is honored to be part of the WKYT Weather Team and is happy to serve the Lexington folk. In June 2013, he joined the WKYT First Alert Weather team. Before joining his current station he worked as a Chief Meteorologist at WYMT. He joined the station on March 12, 200 1, and spent over a decade there before joining his current station.
At 15, he got his first weather experience and since then he has been hooked for life. His hometown radio station WRLV AM/FM wanted a student to come by and record a couple of promos to which he was chosen and obliged. He did promos that kept the community up to date on school news.
When he was 16 he was given another opportunity to get into the broadcasting field early. His high school electricity teacher was asked to do play-by-play for the Magoffin County Hornets. Further, He asked Caldwell to be his color commentator and statistician.
Jim’s very first job was recording the evening weather and recording some commercials. He only put in two or three hours daily after school. Before he knew it, Jim was doing everything from cleaning the station, taking out the trash, dabbling in sales, writing commercials, or washing the station vehicle.
