Amber Philpott is an American Award Winning Anchor and Reporter working as a News Anchor at WKYT in Lexington, Kentucky. She joined the station in 2004 and co-anchors the 4, 4:30, 5, 5:30 and 11 pm newscasts.
Education
Amber is a native of Central Kentucky having grown up in Cynthiana. She attended and graduated from Morehead State University in 2003 with a bachelor’s degree in Journalism. After graduating, she began her broadcast career at WYMT-TV in Hazard, KY.
Career
She currently serves as a News Anchor at WKYT-TV in Lexington, Kentucky. She co-anchors the 4, 4:30, 5, 5:30, 6 and 11 pm news anchor. Amber has been part of the station since 2004 and was named Best Newscaster in Kentucky by the Associated Press in 2013.
Further, she has been a part of several award-winning newscasts and has been nominated for two regional Emmy awards. Amber is living out her dream and doing so in her home state. Her parents always said she was blessed with the gift of gab and that she should use it. She makes dozens of public appearances a month and enjoys meeting and shaking the hands of those who turn to WKYT for their news source each day.
Amber is one of the few people who believe in giving back to the community and she is committed to this course. She is the former Board Chair for the Bluegrass Chapter of the American Red Cross. Amber served as chair for their annual Disaster Blaster event for five years, raising thousands of dollars for relief efforts. Additionally, Amber works closely with the American Diabetes Association, serving as the honorary chair for the Annual Step Out Walk to Stop Diabetes in central Kentucky.
In 2014 she was named Volunteer of the Year for the ADA for her efforts to raise awareness about diabetes in Kentucky. Further, Amber has been recognized by Baptist Health with the Celebration of Women Award for her work in the community. In 2015 she was given the Celebration of Life Award for raising awareness about breast cancer from Komen Kentucky. As of 2024, she is a devoted member of Republican Christian Church in Cynthiana where she serves a deacon.
