Brittany Tarwater’s Career | Education
Tarwater graduated from high school and then enrolled at the University of Tennessee where she also graduated with a Master’s degree. She left her hometown Tampa, Florida, and moved to Knoxville in 2005 to swim. There, she served as a member of the Lady Volunteer swim team was named SEC Champion, the Academic All-American team, and won the NCAA All-American seven times.
At the University, she also served as Assistant Professor of Practice. She co-chairs YWCA Knoxville, the Tennessee Valley Keys of Hope, and serves as a Greater Knoxville Sports Hall of Fame board member Tarwater works at WVLT as a News Anchor and Reporter.
Lately, she created a WVLT Originals documentary that earned her three Emmy awards for uncovering a piece of Tennessee history in a way never done before. “A Tennessee Waltz: Ray Blanton’s Last Dance” showcases murder-for-hire, what the FBI called a “criminal enterprise” stemming from Tennessee Governor Ray Blanton’s office, killers released early from prison, all trying to cover up a pay-for-pardon scandal.
She has also won Tennessee Associated Press awards and several regional Edward R. Murrow. Tarwater has covered several stories concentrating on water safety and drowning prevention for children. She loves spending time with her family.
