Leigh Spann Biography
Leigh Spann is an American Award-winning Journalist working at WFLA News serving as a Meteorologist since she joined the station in September 2007. Formerly, Spann worked at WMAZ, Gannett as a Meteorologist.
Leigh Spann Career/Education
Leigh earned a bachelor’s degree in geography and a certificate in atmospheric science from the University of Georgia. She received a Magna Cum Laude degree and was among the first graduates of UGA to hold the Atmospheric Science Certificate.
She is currently performing her duties as a Meteorologist at WFLA News since she became part of the network in September 2007. Spann began her employment at WFLA in September of 2007. Monday through Friday, you can begin your day with her at 4.30 am, and she’ll always let you know how the weather will be when you go outside. That way, you won’t be taken aback! Her weather forecasts are available on WTTA Great 38 from 7 to 9 am for those of you who want to sleep in a bit longer.
Spann was the morning meteorologist at WFLA’s sister station, WCBD, in Charleston, South Carolina, prior to relocating to Tampa. She was awarded the Award of Merit for South Carolina Weathercaster of the Year while working at WCBD. Furthermore, she also worked at WMAZ station in Macon, Georgia. In 2008, Leigh obtained the National Weather Association Broadcast Seal of Approval and became a Certified Broadcast Meteorologist.
Leigh is fortunate because falling asleep has never been difficult for her, even if she wakes up at 1.00 am and goes to bed at 5.30 pm. Even if it’s still sunny at seven o’clock in the summer, the moment she shuts her eyes, she nods off. She additionally only has one cup of coffee every day.
The weather encourages Spann to venture outside and explore the communities surrounding her house when she goes for runs and she’s completed four full marathons. One of her favorite weekends of the year is Tampa’s Gasparilla Distance Classic; if you haven’t participated in the events that weekend, you really should.
Make sure to watch Tuesday mornings on News Channel 8 Today, That’s when Leigh presents animals in need of homes during the segment, “Pickles’ Pick,” with her rescue dog Pickles. Spann loves college football so much, apologies, Gators of Florida.
