Kimberly Hunt Biography
Kimberly Hunt is an American Emmy Award Winning Anchor and Reporter working as Chief Anchor, Managing Editor, and News Reporter for ABC10 in San Diego, California. Over the years of her professional career, she has had the opportunity to interview some famous people including presidents, and political and business leaders. She has even had the opportunity to interview Oprah Winfrey.
Kimberly Hunt Career | Education
Hunt attended and graduated from San Fransico State University with a bachelor’s degree in journalism. While in college she had the opportunity to work for KVON/KVYN Radio in Napa. After school, she began her career at ABC Network News. While there she served as a researcher for Peter Jenning during the 1984 Democratic National Convention in San Francisco. Later on, she was promoted to associate producer for ABC’s Monday Night Football.
After a while Hunt moved to CBS affiliate station KMST now KION-TV in Monterey as an on-air personality. Hunt relocated to San Diego in 1987 joining ABC10 as an anchor. For over a decade, she co-anchored the evening newscasts with Carol LeBeau, the longest-running female anchor team in the United States.
In October 2002 she briefly left ABC10 and owned KUSI News as an Anchor and Reporter. She anchored the station’s 6 pm,10 pm, and 11 pm weeknight newscasts for 5 years. Additionally, he hosted the weekend show San Diego People. In January 2008, Hunt rejoined ABC10 and currently serves as the station’s chief anchor, managing editor, and reporter.
Over the years of her professional career, Hunt has covered some stories that have led to her winning Emmys and other relevant awards. She has won 4 regional Emmy Awards for Best Investigative News Story, Best Feature News Story, Best Evening Newscast, and Best Journalistic Enterprise. She won an Edward R. Murrow Award for her 2011 story, Tracking the Mexican Mafia-Inside Donovan State Prison.
Additionally, she has earned other industry honors including two first-place awards from the Diego Press Club, for her coverage of Open Air Brothels in San Diego’s canyons and her report on Sex Trafficking. Furthermore, she received a Golden Mic Award for a special titled Postcards From Home during the Persian Gulf War. Hunt also won the Attorney General’s Crime Prevention Award.
