Dom Amato Biography
Dom Amato is an American News Personality working at WCAX-TV, serving as an Assistant News Director since October 2023. He first joined the station in July 2016 and worked as a News Photographer. Formerly, Amato worked at Vermont Center for Community Journalism, News 7, as a Video Journalist.
Dom Amato Career/Education
Amato received his Bachelor of Science in Electronic Journalism Arts from Lyndon State College in 2016 and obtained his first job in the WCAX newsroom shortly after. In June 2016, he began working as a morning photographer. As time passed, he continued to take on new responsibilities. He finally transitioned from being a weekend multimedia journalist to a reporting position that was Monday through Friday.
Dom’s beat dealt mainly with law enforcement, courts, and crime. He has covered several police shootings, homicide cases, and high-profile trials, such as Steven Bourgoin’s, to keep the public informed. In addition, he produced some of his best work on a special, extended reporting assignment on the Vermont Criminal Justice Council and the state’s first prisoner chosen for a gender reassignment procedure while incarcerated.
Dom stepped into the 11 pm co-anchor role during the pandemic, around a year after taking over as Weekend Evening Anchor, and he assisted in the introduction of 3 News Now, a live streaming site on WCAX.com.
Amato joined Alexandra Montgomery as a co-anchor of Channel 3 This Morning in the summer of 2021. He received a nomination for the Vermont Association of Broadcasters’ Rising Star Award in 2022. Dom was elevated to the position of Assistant News Director in 2023 following the resignation of a longstanding WCAX News manager.
