Michael Williams Biography
Michael Williams is an American reporter serving at WPTV as a News Anchor. He joined the Station in March 2011 after working as a Political Reporter for WFOR-TV.
Michael Williams Career | Education
Williams enrolled at The University of Florida in 1978 and graduated with a BS in Broadcasting. As a news reporter, he began his career at WSVN CHANNEL 7 in the Miami/Fort Lauderdale Area in 1984. He left in 1993 and joined WTVJ/NBC 6 Miami where she worked for nine years and six months as an anchor and reporter. There, he reported the Columbia space shuttle tragedy and the build-up to the war in Iraq. His beat included the White House and Capitol Hill.
After working for WTVJ, he worked for NBC NewsChannel as a National Correspondent/in Washington, D.C. for almost two years. In April 2004, he rejoined WTVJ/NBC-6 Miami to work as an anchor and reporter. He then became Senior Mgr./Media Relations at Florida Power and Light for ten months. Williams has covered many stories overseas in countries such as; Panama, Haiti, Colombia, Cuba, and South Africa.

In January 2008, he worked as a Political Reporter/at CBS4 News Miami at WFOR-TV. There, he reported both the 2008 and 2010 political campaigns, scoring one-on-one interviews with John McCain, Barack Obama, and Charlie Crist. Also, he produced two half-hour specials, “Dreams of the American West” and “Dreams of the Galapagos,” which motivated people to become more engaged in maintaining our natural heritage. Right now, he works for WPTV NewsChannel 5 in West Palm Beach, Florida Area as a reporter and anchor.
He has also worked for WTVX in Fort Pierce and has worked for Scripps a couple of times. Besides that, he has worked for Cincinnati station WCPO as a reporter. Williams has won eight-time Emmy awards and is a recipient of the prestigious DuPont-Columbia Award for the report he did in Haiti. Furthermore, the Suncoast Chapter of NATAS (the Emmy organization) has awarded him with the Silver Circle award for over two decades of outstanding work in South Florida broadcasting.
