Iris St. Meran is an American award-winning journalist serving at WSYR as co-host and producer. She joined the Station in June 2023 after working as a main co-anchor for Spectrum News.

Meran joined Emerson College in Boston where she graduated with a degree in Broadcast Journalism. She began her TV career at NECN (New England Cable News) where she served as a web producer and desk assistant. She’s part of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated.
The Boston native is also familiar with Central New York. Before joining the NewsChannel 9 team, she worked as the main co-anchor for the channel’s evening regional newscast, as well as “Live at 4:30” at Spectrum News in Central New York for more than ten years. She co-hosts and produces “Bridge Street,” Syracuse television’s only live, local morning show.
While growing up, she looked up to Oprah Winfrey and her dream has surely come true. She joined her current station NewsChannel 9 in March of 2021 as a reporter. This job allows her to amplify the people, places, and events of the Central New York community in a new way.”
Over the years, she has reported important, life-changing stories. Her first award was the place award she received from the New York Associated Press for her series on the heroin epidemic in Central New York called, “Addicted: Heroin’s Hold.” That series is an example of her dedication to louden voices in the community. In another multi-part series, “Troubled Water: Crisis in Flint,” she found creativity in the Michigan community’s ability to unite in crisis.
Meran was awarded the prestigious 2023 Bill Carey Award (Journalist of the Year) by the Syracuse Press Club. The CNY Business Journal’s 40 Under Forty honorees recognized her in 2022. Additionally, she is an asssociate of the YMCA of Central New York and The Gifford Foundation.
She highlights women who have overcome challenges through her podcast called “The Ladies’ Room” and its making an impact in their communities and beyond. Meran loves checking out new restaurants or going out for a walk or hike with her husband and two rescue dogs, Brady and Mr. T when shes free.
