Pompeo graduated from Los Amigos High School in Fountain Valley in 1982, California, where he showcased his skills as a forward on the basketball team. Four years later, in 1986, he achieved top honors as the valedictorian at the United States Military Academy at West Point, majoring in engineering management. He shared his time at West Point with Brian Bulatao and Ulrich Brechbuhl, who later collaborated with him to establish Thayer Aerospace. This tight-knit group, humorously dubbed the “West Point Mafia,” forms a notably influential circle within the upper echelons of government.
Pompeo served in the U.S. Army as an armor officer from 1986 to 1991, stationed with the 2nd Squadron, 7th Cavalry in the 4th Infantry Division based in West Germany. Beginning as a tank platoon leader, he progressed to roles as a cavalry troop executive officer and then as the squadron maintenance officer. Pompeo concluded his service in the U.S. Army with captain rank. In 1994, Pompeo earned his juris doctor from Harvard Law School, where he distinguished himself as an editor of both the Harvard Law Review and the Harvard Journal of Law & Public Policy.

Upon completing law school, he began practicing law at Williams & Connolly in Washington. Later in 1996, Pompeo relocated to Wichita, Kansas, along with his West Point buddies Brian Bulatao, Ulrich Brechbuhl, and Michael Stradinger. Together, they purchased three aircraft parts manufacturing companies in Wichita and one in St. Louis. These companies were renamed Thayer Aerospace, paying homage to West Point superintendent Sylvanus Thayer. The venture received funding from various sources, including Koch Industries and Cardinal Investment, with Brechbuhl previously affiliated with Bain & Company. However, Brechbuhl and Stradinger soon departed, leaving Pompeo and Bulatao at the helm.
By 2006, Pompeo divested his stake in the enterprise, now called Nex-Tech Aerospace, to Highland Capital Management. This entity had notable clients such as Lockheed Martin, Gulfstream Aerospace, and Boeing. Following this, Pompeo assumed the role of president at Sentry International, an oilfield equipment manufacturer affiliated with Koch Industries. Upon ascending to the position of CIA director in 2017, Pompeo appointed his former business associate, Brian Bulatao, as the agency’s chief operating officer.
Pompeo is an American Politician who served in the Trump administration as the director of the Central Intelligence Agency from 2017 to 2018 and from 2018 to 2021 as the 70th Secretary of State of the United States. Additionally, he was a member of the United States House of Representatives from 2011 to 2017.
After graduating from the United States Military Academy in 1986, Pompeo fulfilled his five-year service as a United States Army officer. Later, he ventured into entrepreneurship in the aerospace and oilfield industries. Pompeo entered the United States House of Representatives in 2010, representing Kansas’s 4th congressional district until 2017.

During his tenure as secretary of state, Pompeo emphasized that property rights and religious freedom should be given top priority in US human rights policy. Notably, under his leadership, the U.S. moved its embassy in Israel from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem and facilitated the Abrahamic Accords, which normalized diplomatic relations between Israel and the United Arab Emirates. Pompeo consistently aligned with Trump’s objectives, often disregarding State Department norms, including supporting Trump’s endeavors to challenge the results of the 2020 presidential election.
