Jennifer Waugh Biography

Jennifer Waugh is an American Emmy Award-winning Journalist working at News4Jax serving as an Anchor and Police Beat Reporter. She joined the station in 1998 working as a General Assignment Reporter before taking on the role of police beat reporter. Formerly, Waugh worked at WBSG, Channel 21, in Brunswick, Georgia as an Evening Anchor.

Waugh completed her education at Episcopal High School after attending Jacksonville Country Day School. During her time at Episcopal, she participated in crew, basketball, and varsity volleyball. She led the basketball and volleyball teams as captain. Waugh began her career as an assignment editor at Jacksonville’s ABC station, WJKS, Channel 17. She then went on to host the evening newscasts at Brunswick, Georgia’s WBSG, Channel 21. She is currently performing her duties as an anchor and police reporter at the News4Jax network. Prior to her current role, Waugh served as a general assignment since she obtained employment at the station in 1998.

For two years, she oversaw News4Jax’s investigative team and broke multiple exclusive reports on the arrest and prosecution of three Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office officers, who were accused of robbery and murder. Jennifer has covered hundreds of stories for the station. The killing of 8-year-old Maddie Clifton stands out as her most memorable tale. 

Jennifer stated that she would always remember the morning Maddie was found in her Lakewood neighborhood. She mentioned that they had spent hours hoping Maddie had been found safe and were all devastated when the sheriff announced Maddie was gone. In addition, Waugh also noted that in the face of such tragedy, the city had rallied around Maddie’s family, expressing admiration for the way the people of Jacksonville had reached out to the Clifton family.

For The Local Station, Waugh has also covered a number of the major breaking news items. She visited Houston at the time of the Columbia Space Shuttle accident. She also followed the arrest of a Jacksonville triple murder suspect to Kentucky after tracking him down in Mexico.

In March 2006, Jennifer moved up to the nightly anchor desk after hosting the weekend newscasts for almost a year. Before taking on the co-anchor position of The Morning Show in June 2013, she was the anchor of the newscasts at 5:30, 6:30, and 11 p.m. on Monday through Friday. She also followed the arrest of a Jacksonville triple murder suspect to Kentucky after tracking him down in Mexico.

She mentioned that she considered herself very fortunate to meet and help Jacksonville residents as she worked in the community. Waugh has won multiple Associated Press honors, three Edward R. Murrow awards, and four Emmys.
