Joy Purdy is an American Award-winning Journalist working at News4Jax serving as an Anchor since she joined the station. Formerly, Purdy worked at WTLV News as an Anchor.

Purdy received her Bachelor of Arts in mass communications with a minor in education from Villanova University and soon started her career in television. After completing an internship at “Channel 6 Action News” in Philadelphia, Joy started working as a producer and radio host for public television’s New Jersey Network News.
Joy’s infectious energy and excellent journalistic reputation brought her to Jacksonville, Florida, where she worked from 1995 to 2000 as a “Police Beat” reporter and weekend news anchor for WJXT, a CBS station. Her work in Jacksonville earned her the Associated Press Individual Achievement Award. Her skills brought her to the bright lights of “Magic City” very soon, and in 2000, she traded in her Jaguars jersey for a Dolphins one. Joy eventually received calls from larger markets and agreed to take a noon and 5 p.m. anchor job with CBS-owned WFOR in Miami, which she held for over seven years.
Miami is well-known for being the place where important news happens quickly. Joy improved her skills as a journalist there. She reported from the Abaco Islands during Hurricane Frances, a powerful Category 4 storm. She also went to the Kennedy Space Center to cover the tragic Space Shuttle Columbia disaster
Joy covered the famous 2000 presidential election from downtown Miami. She humorously recalls finding ‘hanging chads’ stuck to her shoes at the end of each day. Reflecting on the experience, she jokingly mentioned that she could kick herself for not picking up a bunch of them and selling them on eBay.
Shortly after giving birth to their second child, Joy departed WTLV early in 2013 to spend more time with her young children. She was excited to reconnect with her first family at WJXT when the summer was over and go back into the working world.
