Rhonda Lee Biography
Rhonda Lee is an American Meteorologist working as a Chief Meteorologist and on-air weather anchor at WETM in Elmira, New York. She has been part of the station since April 2024 and is happy to serve the New York folk. Before joining her current station she worked as a Part Time News Anchor and Meteorologist at iHeartRadio in New York. It is good to note that Lee was also the first Black Person to be a Chief Meteorologist in Upstate New York and also the first person to hold the title for the Spectrum News Network.
Education | Career
Lee has been in the television business for decades. When she was young she was asked by her parents what she wanted to be when she grew up and she turned to the TV and said “I want to do that”. Who knew all this would come to be when she grew up? In high school, she got her first big break on television as one of the four hosts of the “Fox Kids Club” in Wichita, Kansas.
Every day Lee introduced cartoons after school. She also interned at almost every Wichita TV News Department. Lee was a bit of a news nerd in school, but she always had a LOVE of weather. Her parents said she has been obsessed with the weather since she was about two years old. Her parents claim her first comments about the weather were made from a car seat in Amarillo after a tornado.
Following her dreams and passion, Lee joined Kansas State University where she graduated in 1997 with a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism Mass Communication in the Electronic Media. She then joined Mississippi State University graduating in 2009 with a Degree in Broadcast Meteorology.
Lee currently serves as a Chief Meteorologist and On-Air Weather anchor at WETM-TV (NBC) in Elmira, New York. She joined the station in 2024. Before coming to WETM, Rhonda was the first Black person to be a Chief Meteorologist in Upstate New York and the first Black person to hold the title for the Spectrum News Network. She was also recently the weekend morning news anchor and meteorologist for iHeartRadio in the New York City and Capitol Region markets.
