Kate Thornton Biography
Kate Thornton is an American meteorologist serving at WSYR as a meteorologist. She joined the Station in August 2016 after working as a weekend meteorologist and multimedia journalist for WICZ Fox 40.

Thornton earned her Certificate, in Broadcast Journalism in 2010 at the New School of Radio and Television. She enrolled at Albany University in 2005 and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts, in Broadcast Meteorology in 2009. Thornton worked for Price Chopper Supermarkets as a Customer Service Associate during that same period.
In July 2010, she joined WICZ Fox 40 as a Weekend Meteorologist/MMJ. She worked there until 2014 before joining NewsChannel 9 WSYR in Syracuse, New York Area. When she first joined the team, she worked as a Storm Team Weekend Meteorologist from January 2014 to August 2016. She is now NewsChannel 9’s Full-time Morning and Noon Meteorologist.
She has also been in the field reporting various topics and matters that concern the community. Her love for weather sparked in the Mid-Hudson Valley when he was just 10 years old. When she’s not tracking lake effect snow storms you can likely see her at one of the local schools sharing her love and passion for weather or broadcasting live as part of “Cool Schools” showcasing what makes the central New York schools so cool with their enriching programs. She also serves as a high school volleyball coach.
In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her friends and growing family, and Playing Volleyball. She loves sharing her love for weather and the importance of STEM to young minds and visiting local schools. She also serves as a high school volleyball coach.
