Rachel Polansky is an American journalist serving at WSYR as a Morning News Anchor. She joined the Station in March 2024 after working as an Investigative Reporter for Atlanta News First.
Rachel Polansky Career | Education
Polansky attended Tappan Zee High School in 2004 and graduated with a Diploma with Honors in 2008. She graduated in 2012 from Penn State University with a Bachelor’s in Broadcast Journalism. Polansky then joined WUTR-TV in the Utica, New York Area as a reporter. She worked there, from June 2012 to November 2013 posting all stories to the station’s website, reporting and editing general assignment packages daily.
After working for WUTR-TV, she joined NewsChannel 9 WSYR in Syracuse, New York as a reporter. Here, she worked from November 2013 to November 2015 reporting general assignment packages daily, Using social media to connect with viewers on Facebook and Twitter, and Won Syracuse Press Club Investigative Story in 2015 and Syracuse Press Club Newcomer of the Year in 2014.
In December 2015, she worked for NBC 2 in the Fort Myers, Florida Area as an investigative Reporter researching, writing, and reporting investigative packages weekly until August 2019. She won a regional Edward R. Murrow Award in 2017 for an investigation looking into mental illness and homelessness and two regional Edward R. Murrow Awards in 2018 for an investigation looking into FEMA fraud after Hurricane Irma.
Her next stop was working for WKYC Studios in Cleveland, Ohio where she worked also as an Investigative Reporter from September 2019 to August 2021. At WKYC Studios, she Won an Emmy Award (Lower Great Lakes) for Journalistic Enterprise in 2021 and a Regional Edward R. Murrow Award (Region 7) for Podcast in 2022. In 2023, she worked as an Adjunct Professor at the University of Missouri-Kansas City.
Polansky left and joined Atlanta News First in Atlanta, Georgia, United States as an Investigative Reporter. Here, she worked from September 2021 to March 2024 researching, writing, and reporting investigative pieces using local, state, and federal public records. She also won a regional Edward R. Murrow Award for an investigation exposing 911 wait times and delays in the city of Atlanta and an Emmy Award for exposing a Georgia loophole, which freed a convicted sex offender now accused of murder. She now works for NewsChannel 9 WSYR as a full-time Morning News Anchor.
