Steve Minich Biography
Steve Minich is an American award-winning journalist serving at WMTW in Portland Maine as a reporter and anchor. He joined the Station in December 1991 after working as a Sports anchor for WSYX-TV in Columbus, Ohio.
Steve Minich Career | Education
Minich enrolled at The Ohio State University in 1975 and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts (BA), in Broadcast Journalism. In September 1979, he worked for WSYX-TV in Columbus, Ohio as a Sports anchor until March 1990. Here in Columbus, Ohio, he worked for 11 years before joining his current station (WMTW-TV) in Maine. He then joined WMTW-TV in Portland Maine where he works as a reporter and anchor. At WMTW-TV, he anchors the 5, 6 & 11 pm News. He worked for WMTW-TV in Portland Maine for more than thirty-two years before retiring on February 29th.
He joined the station because the director at WMTW persuaded him to leave Ohio and work for him in Maine. Minich realized Maine was a special place in less than two years and he’s not going anywhere after he has left. Throughout his career, he has heard people say a multitude of stories he has done many fun things, and been to great places and he can’t deny that for a fact. One of his most unforgettable moments was meeting many Mainers and the passion they have for the lives they lead, how they have embraced living here, and the products they make.
The President & General Manager of WMTW Dave Abel, said Maine viewers have watched Minich for years. He proposed new findings from, what seems like, every part of Maine and led them to each Hometown in Maine. Minich delivered the last story of Channel 8 on Mt. Washington and years later introduced the station’s new 5 p.m. newscast. He has reported thousands of stories and storytelling was always clear in his blood. Minich thinks he’sextremely lucky to have spent a career doing exactly what he first dreamed about doing way back when he was teenager.
