Steve Sedgwick Biography
Steve Sedgwick is an English Anchor and Reporter working as a Co-Anchor of Squawk Box on CNBC Europe. He is a well-known financial journalist who is also CNBC’s OPEC reporter. He joined CNBC in October 2001 and he started hosting Squawk Box back in 2008.
Education | Career
Sedgwick attended and graduated from the University of London where he studied politics. He also studied at the National Council for Training Journalists. Before starting his journalism career, he spent more than a decade trading in the financial markets, specializing in equity and bond market derivative products.
In 1988, Sedgwick joined Dresdner Kleinwort Wassersteub and worked as an equity option market-maker before moving to Credit Lyonnais where he became Head of the London option market-making team on LIFFE. He started his journalism career at the UK Press Association on the City desk and at Dow Jones on the European Market desk.
Steve is currently a Presenter and Co-Anchors CNBC’s flagship show ‘Squawk Box’ in EMEA. The three-hour program, which broadcasts worldwide five days a week, bookends the opening of European equity markets and is a must-see for financial professionals, C-suite executives, and investors.
Steve is also CNBC’s OPEC reporter, covering major meetings and interviewing top OPEC oil ministers, non-OPEC ministers, and heads of bodies such as the IEA and EIA. He has spent over three decades in and around financial markets, first as a trader and then as a journalist.
Over the years of his professional career, he has attended high-level international events for CNBC for over a decade including key G7, G8, and G20 meetings, as well as the St Petersburg International Economic Forum in Russia and the World Economic Forum in Davos, where he also routinely moderates key panels on a host of subjects.
Before joining CNBC, Steve worked for the UK Press Association on the City desk and at Dow Jones on the European Markets desk. At Dow Jones, he regularly broke market-moving stories and was a contributor to The Wall Street Journal Europe.
