Fred Cunningham Biography
Fred Cunningham is an American reporter serving at WSPA as a weekday morning and noon anchor, he joined the Station in February 2002 after working as a sports reporter for WOLO-TV. He also worked for WYCW 62 (Spartanburg, SC) as a Daybreak and Noon Anchor.
Fred Cunningham Career | Education
Cunningham enrolled at Indiana University after completing his High School education. He moved to South Carolina in 1984 to work for WOLO-TV in Columbia as a sports reporter. There he worked until April 1987 reporting news, hosted call-in talk shows for WIFE-AM and WBWB-FM in Indiana from 1980-82, and sports.

He works for WSPATV also known as 7NEWS as a weekday morning and noon anchor. Cunningham has 15 years of experience at the station as he used to work as the weekend sports anchor. Here, he has reported a combination of stories including feature tales showing his unique sense of humor and from occasional volatile weather to consumer stories. He was happy to celebrate WSPA-TV’s 68th anniversary as they debuted at our downtown Spartanburg studio on April 29, 1956.
Cunningham also reported the Carolina Panthers, the rise of the Atlanta Braves into one of baseball’s most successful franchises, NASCAR racing, three Super Bowls, Clemson University and University of South Carolina athletics as well as the Masters and Heritage golf tournaments.
He has won the Associated Press Best Sportscast award twice in South Carolina. Cunningham served as the play-by-play voice of Clemson University football TV replays and hosted the Miss South Carolina Pageant. He shot a scene in the movie Talladega Nights portraying a sports reporter and actor Will Ferrell. When he is not working, he enjoys being a Chicago Cubs and Indiana Pacers fan, running and playing golf.
