Amy Wood is an American Emmy award-winning anchor serving at KRIS as the 4 p.m., 5 p.m., and 6 p.m. newscast anchor. She joined the Station in January 2022 after working as an Interactive News Anchor for the same station.

In 1978, she attended Stockholm International School where she completed her 7 and 8th. After completing her 8th grade in 1980, she joined Interlochen Arts Academy a school of Voice, drama, and dance. She also joined Fox Lane High School that same year and completed it in 1983. Wood enrolled at the State University of New York at Oswego where she studied communications until 1985.

She then joined American University and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Communications. In January 2020, she joined Riley Institute at Furman University. Wood worked as a Research Intern at The Naisbitt Group in the Washington D.C. Metro Area for less than a year. She also interned at Post Newsweek Stations in Washington Bureau for less than a year.

Wood began her career at FMAK where he Recorded English Jingles for Swedish radio stations from 1980 to 1981. In 1983 she became the School Apprentice for The Patent Trader in Mt. Kisco, NY. During her Senior year of high school, she wrote obituaries and covered meetings. She then joined KSAX Hubbard Broadcasting in 1987, serving three years as a news anchor covering breaking news and blizzards for three winters.

In 1990, she again became a news anchor at Spartan Communications, Inc. where she worked for six years. Wood then moved to Spartanburg SC and joined Media General in November 2011 as an Innovation Team Leader, working until August 2013. Before as an Innovation Team Leader, she was a Creator and blogger for almost eight years. In early 2009, she worked as a Social TV Instigator, Strategist Speaker, and Coach for Social Moves.

Wood also worked for WSPA Channel 7 (CBS) in Spartanburg, SC for almost thirty-five years as a 5, 7, 10, and 11 Interactive News Anchor. She then got promoted to work as “7 News at 6” and “7 News at 7” plus “7 News at 4” Evening News Anchor in September 2019. In 2022 she was moved by the same station to work as an Evening News Anchor in South Carolina, United States.

Wood often educates the community on how to get your story told in this digital age, the power of social media, debate moderator, serving as Master of Ceremonies, and panel discussion leader for many community events. Since 1995, she used the time – time-revolutionary email, in her Reality Check reports to give viewers a voice.

She believes that the critical tool in the journalist’s toolbox is the transformative power of social media relationships. Wood was praised to teach and speak about her innovative work at the Paley Center for Media in New York City, the Poynter Institute, and The Reynolds Journalism Institute at Mizzou.

In the Spring 2020 class, she is a fellow from the Riley Institute’s Diversity Leaders Initiative, but now she is a Rotarian in the city of Greenville. She used the internet to connect with commander Stephen Twitty from Chesnee, S.C., and bring The Frontline” coverage to viewers.

One of her most unforgettable moments was the Charleston Mother Emanuel AME Church shooting, the story she covered on the CW for 10 days. Wood then anchored 7NEWS’ heartbreaking funeral coverage days after. On September 11, 2001, she directed viewers with local wall-to-wall reports and a helpline. She won an Emmy Award for covering the story of Susan Smith, the mother who drowned her sons.

The South Carolina Broadcaster’s Association named her Anchor of the Year in 2016 for her interactive anchoring.
