Bill Alexander is an American forecaster serving at KRIS as an evening weekday and weekend meteorologist, he joined the Station in March 2020 after working as a Chief Meteorologist for
KAVU.

Bill Alexander Career | Education

Alexander started his career at Texas A&M University where he worked as a graduate associate. There, he completed his undergraduate and graduate studies. While studying, he operated as an upper air analyst and instructor. Years later, he worked for the Texas Department of Water Resources and was chief meteorologist for a weather modification program in West Texas.

In West Texas, he prepared several studies about improving rainfall in arid farm and ranch lands. Alexander worked as a Warnings and Preparedness Meteorologist at the National Weather Service (NWS). He was also a Regional and National Program Manager. He topped his NWS profession as a senior manager, captaining the NWS forecast office in El Paso, Texas.

Pursuing his government employment, he moved into broadcast forecasting as the Chief Meteorologist at the ABC affiliate in Victoria, Texas. He made many contributions to promote NWS operational programs. Being a regional Warning Coordination Meteorologist (WCM), Alexander wrote and taught the very first WCM training program. The storm surge software he presented to the NWS coastal offices, advanced the tropical cyclone warning program.

When he was a national program manager, he rewrote Spotter Training programs for the NWS, Severe Local Storms, and Flash Flood. Furthermore, he has led the report which led to significant changes to engineering requirements for manufactured housing and the interagency Hurricane Andrew Disaster Survey.

In the Alaska Region, he served as Deputy Chief of Environmental and Scientific Services. There, he led the Aviation and Fire Weather programs, and the World Meteorological Organization to create a universal lexicon for defining and quantifying volcanic ash eruption intensity.1ZZ. Alexander currently works for KRIS as an evening weekday and weekend meteorologist. He has many years of experience in meteorology and federal government before his career as a broadcast forecaster.
