Smith received his diploma from Wheaton Warrenville South High School in 1998. At Wheaton Warrenville South, where she captained the cross country team as a senior, she received three letters in cross country and two letters in track. Before moving to Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge for the 2002–2003 academic year, Smith briefly attended Illinois State University in Bloomington–Normal. Smith minored in speaking and completed a few business subjects before graduating from LSU. Previously, she held the role of co-anchor on morning news programs like America’s Newsroom and Outnumbered, alongside co-anchor Harris Faulkner and a rotating panel of guests.
