After attaining his high school diploma from St. Albans School, Hume pursued his undergraduate studies at the College of Arts & Sciences. He later graduated from the University of Virginia.

Brit embarked on his career at the United Press International, serving as a newspaper reporter for The Hartford Times and The Baltimore Evening Sun. Transitioning to ABC in 1973, he initially served as a consultant for the network’s documentary division. Following that, in 1976, he assumed the role of a Washington correspondent. He was later elevated to the position of Capitol Hill correspondent, where he extensively covered Congress until 1988. Moreover, he also held the position of chief White House correspondent from 1989 to 1996. Throughout his tenure, he made notable contributions to programs such as World News Tonight with Peter Jennings, Nightline, and This Week, in addition to participating in various specials produced by the news division.

Hume joined FOX News in 1996, serving as the Washington managing editor. Additionally, he anchored FOX News’ coverage of every presidential election from 1996 to 2008. From September 2016 until the 2016 presidential election, Brit served as interim host of On the Record, a weekday program airing at 7 p.m. ET. He had previously anchored Special Report for over a decade, stepping down from this role in December 2008. During his tenure, Special Report became the highest-rated political program on cable television. Furthermore, he has contributed to the FNC’s midterm election coverage, as well as coverage of the 2020 presidential and vice presidential debates and the Democratic and Republican National Conventions. He currently serves as the chief political analyst for the FNC. Additionally, he regularly participates as a panelist on FOX’s weekly public affairs program, FOX News Sunday.
