Anthony Everett is an American 14x Emmy Award-winning Journalist working at WCVB News serving as an Anchor since he joined the station in September 2005. Formerly, Everett worked at the station as a co-anchor.

Everett studied at Tufts University in Medford, MA, and received his Bachelor’s degree. He is currently performing his duties at the WCVB station, serving as an anchor since he became part of the network in September 2005. Anthony has also co-anchored NewsCenter 5 at 5:30, 6 and 11 p.m.Additionally, in the Tufts Film and Media Studies Program, he serves as a guest lecturer.

Formerly, Anthony co-anchored the weekend newscasts at noon, 6 p.m., and 11 p.m. on the station. He was honored twice in the “Spot News” category at the National Headliner Awards during this time. Everett shared the 2000 Associated Press “Best Newscast” award for his early-evening performance. He won the title of “Best Newscaster” in Boston in 2000, according to readers of The Improper Bostonian magazine. In addition, he has received other honors, such as the Massachusetts Broadcasters Association First Place award for spot news coverage and the 1996 National Headliner Award. Furthermore, Anthony was honored with the RTNDA’s “Continuing Coverage” award in 1993, and the Associated Press presented him with an award in the same category in 1991.

Anthony Everett Career

In 1990, Everett started working as a general assignment reporter at WCVB’s NewsCenter 5. He worked as a weekday anchor and general assignment reporter for WVIT-TV, the NBC station in Hartford, Connecticut, covering newscasts at 6 and 11 p.m. before joining Channel 5. In 1984, Anthony started working as a sports reporter and anchor for KSPN-TV in Aspen, Colorado, to launch his professional broadcasting career. Later on, he rose to the position of news director at KSPN, where he worked until 1987.

Everett has assumed leadership roles at WCVB-TV during the course of his tenure. For thirty years, he has worked at WCVB as the SAG-AFTRA negotiating unit’s shop steward and lead negotiator. He is a member of the Hearst Certified Change Agent program, which promotes tolerance and awareness of inclusion, equity, and diversity in the workplace. He was chosen lately to serve as the head of an internal Change Agent working group, which will assist the organization in determining how to proceed with those efforts. Anthony led the Chronicle’s creation of a drone program for aerial videography and is an FAA-certified drone pilot.

Several Emmy Awards have been given to Anthony, including one in 2016 for his reporting on education and another on the high rate of cancer among Boston firefighters. He was awarded an Emmy in 2015 for his coverage of Alzheimer’s as a social issue. Additionally, he was awarded an Emmy for anchoring a special on the 125th anniversary of the Boston Pops in 2011 as well as a show on “Holiday Lights” in 2015.

Everett won an Emmy in 2010 for his work hosting Chronicle. In addition, he received an Emmy in 2008 for a story on special education and in 2009 for his reporting on the recycling sector. Anthony won the National Headliner Award for Health and Science reporting in 2015. Chronicle was recognized as Boston’s Best Local TV Program in 2010 by The Improper Bostonian.

Everett has contributed frequently to special stories for all WCVB newscasts and has worked as the network’s senior correspondent for significant national events and breaking news. His outstanding reporting abilities have helped WCVB win numerous honors, such as the National Headliner Award for Breaking News in 2003, the Associated Press Awards for Investigative Reporting and Documentary Reporting in 2012, and the Edward R. Murrow Awards for News Series and News Documentary in 2013.
