Jenese Harris Career | Education
Harris graduated from Mississippi State University with a Bachelor of Science in Broadcast Meteorology and from the University of South Florida with a Bachelor of Arts and Sciences in Communications. She is currently performing her duties at News4Jax, serving as a meteorologist and evening news anchor since she secured a position at the network in January 2016.
When Jenese was a kid, she used to watch two things on TV: the local news and Sesame Street. She once stared at the television one day while her father was at work and her mother was preparing dinner.
When she was nine years old, she noticed a mirror image of herself on Detroit anchor Carmen Harlan. Her dream of becoming a news anchor herself had been established in her thoughts ever since.
Harris began working with this community in June of 2016. On August 21, 2022, she created history by being the first female African American meteorologist and the first person to deliver a weather forecast in the Southeast Georgia and Northeast Florida markets. She has covered stories for a number of regional news outlets as well as international ones. Her outstanding journalism has been highlighted by HLN, CNN, Al Jazeera, and Crime Watch, among other networks.
Jenese has developed a skill for reporting on high-profile court cases, such as the two-and-a-half-year-long McMichaels and Bryan murder trial that followed Ahmaud Arbery’s death. She also reported on Cherish Periwinkle’s horrifying murder following her abduction from a nearby store.
For two years, Harris was the morning anchor at WICD. She then served as an evening anchor and reporter at WCCU, co-anchoring a local Fox affiliate with meteorologist Doug Quick. Jenese covered everything from city council meetings and federal court cases to protests and celebrity charity events while working as an assignment editor and field producer for CBS 2 Chicago and the Local News Service, two hours north of Champaign, Illinois.
She worked as the evening anchor, reporter, and producer for WABG in Greenville, Mississippi’s five, six, and ten o’clock evening news prior to relocating to Chicago. Her on-air career started at Tampa, Florida’s WMOR as a TV host for MORE TV 32, a weekly entertainment program. At the age of 15, Jenese started her career in journalism as an intern at Detroit’s WDET, a National Public Radio station. She then worked as a paid apprentice for the Detroit Free Press for a year after that, after which she interned at a local radio station. Movies, eating, and genealogy are three things Harris enjoys.
