Pontbriand earned a bachelor’s degree in journalism and a master’s degree in sports business management from The University of Alabama. She worked at WVUA 23 TV in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, while she was a student. Alessandra covered Auburn University, The University of Alabama, and The Southeastern Conference as the weekend sports anchor.

Alessandra gave up windy, chilly winters for heat and sunshine! She worked as a sports reporter and anchor at Springfield, Illinois’s WICS/WRSP TV for the previous 2.5 years. She covered athletics at every level when she was in Central Illinois, covering everything from regional high schools to the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign and the Big Ten Conference. Pontbriand loves to run and has once finished a half marathon. Having grown up in New York, she is eager to see Northeast Florida!
At the start of 2024, Alessandra completed her contract as the Sports Anchor/Reporter at WICS/WRSP, the Sinclair ABC and FOX affiliates in Springfield, Illinois. As the sole member of the sports department in Springfield, she was responsible for creating all of the station’s sports content. This role involved anchoring three shows five days a week, as well as researching, shooting, editing, writing, and producing.
During her time at WICS & WRSP, she had numerous opportunities to connect with the Central Illinois community. Further, she developed stories that were both entertaining and relevant to the local audience. Every week, she aired a feature story during the Sunday night sports block in a segment called ‘Sunday Sports Spotlight’. These stories ranged from profiles of local athletes and teams to highlighting community members with unique connections to athletics. She also covered University of Illinois athletics and the Big Ten Conference, reporting on the Fighting Illini men’s basketball team’s March Madness appearance and the hiring and firing of the head football coach.
