Janny Rodriguez is an American multimedia journalist serving at WPTV as a News Anchor, she joined the Station in August 2018. She also works for WFLX as a news anchor, she joined the team in March 2020. Before joining both stations, she was a multimedia journalist for WTLV First Coast News.
Janny Rodriguez Career | Education
Rodriguez attended the University of Florida in 2009 and graduated in 2013 with a Bachelor of Science in Telecommunication News. She interned at WCJB TV20 from July 2012 to August 2012 and at Univision Network in Miami. She served as a Student Mentor at Daniel, Improving the Odds for Kids in the Jacksonville, Florida Area for eight months.
Rodriguez began her career at WUFT-TV in the Gainesville, Florida Area as a News Brief Anchor where she worked from May 2012 to June 2012. In 2013, she worked for the same station for five months as a Multimedia Journalist and Anchor.
After working for WUFT, she joined WUFT-FM and worked as an Anchor, Producer, and Noticias for six months. On the same station, she Booked and researched relevant guests for the Hispanic community for the weekly morning analysis segment of the show and Supervised and directed the production of Noticias WUFT-FM. Rodriguez then worked for WUFT-FM as a Co-Host and Co-Producer, Viernes Social.
In August 2013, she joined WAGT NBC 26 as a News Reporter and Anchor. There, Rodriguez wrote, produced weekend evening newscasts, and provided compelling reports on many topics including crime and education.
She then left and joined First Coast News in July 2015 as a Multimedia Journalist, writing, shooting videos, and editing enterprise stories daily for evening newscasts. Rodriguez always adapted to breaking news coverage and incorporated social media.
Presently she serves as a news anchor at WPTV News Channel 5 editing videos, shooting, and interviewing for almost six years. She anchors weekday newscasts at 7, 10, and 11 p.m. and prerecording at 4:30 a.m. Also, she has worked for WFLX FOX 29 as a full-time news anchor since March 2020.
