Ed Daniels Biography
Ed Daniels is an American Award-winning Journalist working at WGNO News, serving as a Sports Director since he joined the station in July 1992. In addition, the Press Club of New Orleans awarded him a Lifetime Achievement Award in 2014.
Ed Daniels Education
Daniels studied at Archbishop Rummel High School and graduated in the year 1975. He later enrolled at Loyola University in Chicago and received his bachelor’s degree in the year 1979. He has been inducted into both the De La Salle Athletics Hall of Fame and the Archbishop Rummel Athletic Hall of Fame.

Ed is presently playing his role as a sports director at the WGNO Network since he secured a position at the station in July 1992. The Press Club of New Orleans awarded him a Lifetime Achievement Award in 2014. Additionally, the National Sportscasters and Sportswriters Association has named Ed the Louisiana Sportscaster of the Year twice. He casts ballots for both the Wooden Award and the Heisman Trophy.
One of the top high school football programs in the country, Friday Night Football, was created by him. In the 2021 season, he and head coach JT Curtis of John Curtis celebrated 30 years together as co-hosts. In addition, Ed produces and co-hosts Friday Night Fastball, which is hosted by Delgado Community College. Along with head baseball coach Joe Scheuermann of Delgado, he co-hosts the show.
The All-State Sugar Bowl National Prep Classic is one of the top high school basketball tournaments in the nation, and he co-tournament directs it with Riverside Basketball Coach Timmy Byrd. The WGNO Baseball Classic is an annual high school baseball tournament that attracts some of the top prep baseball teams in Louisiana. Daniels and Brother Martin Baseball Coach Mark Wisniewski oversee the tournament.
Ed has worked in Louisiana television for 35 years, the last 33 of which were spent in his hometown. He and his father were in the south end zone at Tulane Stadium when the Saints were founded in 1967, watching as John Gilliam returned the inaugural kickoff against the Los Angeles Rams 94 yards for a score.
