Julie Nelson is an American award-winning Journalist working at KARE 11 which is an affiliate of NBC serving as an evening co-anchor since she joined the station in September 2003. Formerly, Nelson worked at KSTP-TV as an anchor.

Nelson studied at Eau Claire’s Memorial High School from 1986 and received honors in the year 1990. She later enrolled at Indiana University, Bloomington, in the year 1990 and earned her Bachelor of Arts in Broadcast Journalism and History in 1994. Nelson is presently performing her duties as a co-anchor of KARE 11 News’ evening newscasts at five, six, and ten o’clock on weeknights.
Julie was the anchor of the 6 pm and 10 pm newscasts at KSTP station 5, an ABC affiliate, prior to joining KARE-TV. She was nominated “Best Newcomer” by Mpls.St.Paul Magazine a few months after coming to KSTP. In addition, she was listed as one of the “One Hundred People to Watch” in the area by the magazine a year later. Nelson has received three “Best TV Newscaster” awards from City Pages, a regional Murrow award, an Eric Sevareid award, and a regional Emmy for anchoring.
Nelson served on the Indiana University School of Journalism Alumni Board from 2002 to 2005 and donates her time to organizations including Feed My Starving Children, Christian Recovery Center, Treehouse, Habitat for Humanity, and Wooddale Church. Julie is passionate about her work because it gives her the chance to interact with individuals from other backgrounds and share their stories; it is an amazing pleasure.
