Erick Kahnert is an American 10-time Emmy Award-winning veteran journalist serving at CBS8 as an anchor. He joined the Station in May 2017 after working as a main anchor for KMGH-TV.

Eric Kahnerts Career | Education

Kahnert joined the University of Southern California in 1998 and later graduated with a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in journalism and communications. He anchored and reported for the prestigious Annenberg TV News at the University. He was an associate of USC’s Skull & Dagger Honor Society, Pi Kappa Alpha.

Kahnert started his journalism profession in 2002 working for KTTC-TV as a reporter and anchor. After working or KTTC, he joined KOB-TV 4 in the Albuquerque, New Mexico Area as an investigator where he worked for five years and left. After leaving KOB-TV 4 he worked as a Weekend Anchor at KUSA-TV in the Greater Denver Area from 2009 to 2012.

In 2012, he worked for KSTP Hubbard Broadcasting, Inc. in the Greater Minneapolis-St. Paul Area as a Primary Anchor for two years. After that, he joined The DenverChannel.com – Azteca Colorado – KMGH-TV in 2014 where he served as a main anchor until 2016. He now works as a full-time anchor at CBS News 8 in the Greater San Diego. He anchors for the station every Monday to Friday morning from 4:30 a.m.-7 a.m. and 11 a.m.-12:00 p.m.

Kahnert established an award-winning franchise called Trading Places which highlights the unique and often difficult jobs San Diegans don’t get enough recognition for in 2023. He tries their position to give viewers a new gratitude for professions. Some of the careers he highlighted included animal shelter care attendant, butcher, busser at a busy restaurant, rollercoaster ride operator, and preschool teacher.

Viewers turned to him for sports stories, some of Colorado’s biggest news, investigative, and weather including many harmful and deadly storms and wildfires and the Aurora theater shooting trial. Being committed, he is proud of his partnership with Special Olympics. He is the first journalist in the country to train and mentor developmentally disabled adults to become on-air local news reporters.
