Marcella Lee’s Career | Education
Lee enrolled at The University of Michigan Business School in Ann Arbor. She chose to try and pursue her interest in journalism, working at WLNS-TV in Lansing, Michigan as a videographer and reporter receiving $5 an hour. After that, she joined WBNS-TV in Columbus, Ohio, where she earned her first Emmy award.
After working for WBNS-TV, she joined KCNC-TV in Denver, Colorado, and worked as a reporter leading her back to Detroit at WDIV-TV, where she served as an anchor. Currently, she works as an evening anchor for CBS8 KFMB-TV in San Diego, California. She has earned 18 Emmy awards and 14 awards at CBS News 8 for her reporting and anchoring skills. She reported everything including the October 2007 and May 2015 wildfires.
Lee supports many organizations in San Diego, including Girl Scouts San Diego and Alzheimer’s San Diego. She commits her time to other non-profit groups and frequently mentors high school and college students. One of her most unforgettable experiences in TV news, she remembers traveling to Jordan for a cultural exchange assignment following the September 11th attacks.
It was an amazing experience to not only learn about the Middle Eastern culture but to coach and inform viewers by assisting in bridging the cultural gap during an eruptive and extremely sensitive time. She not only tells people’s stories but also hers. San Diego’s sun, and surf were irresistible, and the golden opportunity to work with a gifted team of journalists.
She profiles foster children in San Diego County, feeling that they need guidance and affection through the college years and beyond. What pleases her about her job is learning that a child has been put together with a permanent family. More than 700 kids have found a place to call home after being featured in the reports. One of her most touching successful stories she has told was about a sibling group of seven adopted by empty nesters.
